The end of Summer...

I like to feel the seasons passing by. I like when you can tell a page is about to be turned in the year book. Last week we escaped on a thursday evening to a near by arboretum, Summer is slowly disappearing before us and we wanted to make the most of the pink hot evenings we have had for the past few weeks. This is one of the many things I love about my life in New Zealand, my husband comes home from work around 5 o'clock and we can all go and wander together. This might seam completely normal to many but coming from the busy parisian lifestyle I have always known, I sincerely appreciate how privileged we are. Only a few years ago I was still waiting for my then young husband till way after dark for him to come home. He was leaving every morning before dawn... and that was the life I grew up knowing. My parents both worked till late, and it is what everyone around us did too. I did have a few friends with stay at home mums and I remember thinking during my teens that I would like to find a way to spend more time with my family once I had grown up.
New Zealand brought all these wishes to me on a plate and I am forever grateful...

HEARTH - Hamilton, NZ

I have already mentionned Lovegrove lane here and there... Hearth is another one of the cool spaces that has taken over the lane. This juice bar and grocer focuses onorganic, seasonal and local products. Katie created the space as a continuity to the lifestyle practices encouraged at her yoga studio next door.

The shelves are filled with local produce, honey, eggs, bread, vegetables, even olive oil. The seasonal fruits and vegetables on offer are also used for juices, smoothies and salads that are freshly made every day. The secret is out, lunchtime now sees all the locals and workers in the area coming down to Hearth for their food fix.

I have already had the pleasure of giving you a tour of The Flower Crate. Miss Daisy was Sandra's first shop in Hamilton, along with her talented team of florists she caters for all the prettiest weddings, events around town, and of course custom bouquets put together every day!

Watching the girls put together bouquets is mesmerizing, it's almost like a dance, they pick what feels right in the moment and it shows in the finished bouquets : emotion has been put into each one of them.

Sandra always comes up with very creative ways to display her bouquets. When she started they were cleverly placed in a brown paper bag with vintage pattern sheets, now they come in recycled tins spray painted in copperish gold.

It is always a pleasure to spend time in Sandra's shops, my eyes always get caught on lovely details and personal touches, I always leave feeling inspired. She is a champ at changing the feel of her shops regularly too, sadly the rain was a little too strong when I visited to show the beautiful window display... just another excuse to come back another time!

Lovegrove Lane launch

This Saturday in Hamilton saw the official launch of Lovegrove Lane in Hamilton East. I had already shared about this area when I gave you a tour of The Flower Crate a while back. Since, the lane has welcomed many more inspiring businesses making it one of Hamilton's most happening little hub.

A huge crowd gathered and celebrated what our lovely town had been craving for for so long, a spot with identity and a cool vibe. Long live the lane!

Live music by local bands was playing all afternoon, the best food trucks were all there and our favourite Duck Island Ice Cream even had a table with a couple of flavours. Tables, chairs and sofas were handily placed for everyone to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, felt pens and crayons were placed at every table for children and children at heart to doodle away on the brown paper covered surfaces.

It was so nice to see a community come together, everyone was happy and cheerful. I have said it times and times again but I am really proud of the people in my city, putting themselves out there, creating something vibrant and unique, and nurturing a sense of belonging, culture and togetherness through their businesses.

Of course I had to snap a couple of images from Grey Gardens, a favourite of ours, I had already shared about this place on Instagram.
There were so many people I could not take pictures of everything and every shop but The Framing House has now joined the Lovegrove Lane family. They offer custom framing solutions along with some handcrafted goods, George Sand Studio being one of them, a very clever lady whom I love to follow on Instagram and creates the most divine ceramics pieces.

So there, Lovegrove Lane everyone, come down and enjoy the buzz!
